Diseases Overview

Below are some conditions and diseases caused by Asbestos Exposure. Asbestos related diseases could take 10-50 years to develop from first exposure to asbestos.
There are difficulties in diagnosis especially at the early stages. All are progressive over the years.
Asbestosis

This disease is difficult to diagnose because its onset is gradual, and also the symptoms and signs may occur in other diseases and are often difficult to detect. Asbestosis is fibrosis of the lung, which gives a restrictive lung function

Pleural Thickening

Thickening of the lung walls due to scarring of asbestos. It can be either on one side, both sides (Bilateral) and widespread (Diffuse)

Asbestos Pleural Plaques

Dense bands of scar tissue on the lung caused through asbestos exposure

Mesothelioma

A neoplasm composed of cells similar to those forming the lining of the pleura, peritoneum, or pericardium.

 

Lung cancer

Cancer of the Lung. For asbestos related must be accompanied with Asbestosis.

Pneumoconiosis 

Fibrosis of the lung due to asbestos exposure.
